About this trip
Gandiva is a luxury-class wooden phinisi, 28.5 metres long. The boat sails from Labuan Bajo on 3 day, 2 night trips through Komodo National Park. Prices start at IDR 8,600,000 per person.
Gandiva sells by the person, not by the boat. So two or three of you can sail without chartering the whole vessel. That is fairly rare for a luxury-class boat in Labuan Bajo, where most only take full charters. Families travelling together fit well here too.
There are 5 cabins for 10 guests, looked after by 6 crew. That is close to two guests per crew member. In this price bracket, carrying 20 guests with the same crew is normal. Gandiva sets its own standard.
The five cabins are named after the Pandawa brothers, priced in steps from IDR 8,600,000 to IDR 11,100,000 per person. The gap is not about different fittings. What mostly changes is which deck the cabin sits on, because the view differs and you usually take it in from your own balcony.
Now, if you are the sort who would rather not shower and be done with it, or you want to bathe while looking at the sea, there is one cabin worth your attention.
Arjuna suits you if you want a bathtub in the bathroom. It also has a private balcony. This is the only cabin on board with a tub, so if a bathtub is your deciding factor, Arjuna is the answer.
Nakula and Sadewa are also on the upper deck, with long sea-facing windows. No bathtub in these two, just a shower.
Bima and Yudishtira are on the lower deck, where the windows are small and round. That is what makes them the cheapest. No bathtub either.
Every cabin already has air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom with hot water. So if you take the dearest room, what you pay for matches what you get, and for Arjuna the tub plus the private balcony is the difference.
What is the boat like?
The hull is ironwood, the engine a Mitsubishi 6D16, and power comes from two 42 kVA generators. Navigation runs on Garmin GPS and VHF radio. It cruises at 6 to 9 knots.
Who is it right for?
If a bathtub is not your priority and you would rather save, Bima or Yudishtira on the lower deck are IDR 2,500,000 per person cheaper than Arjuna.
Families fit well here. Yudishtira on the lower deck is built as the family cabin and takes an extra bed, so a larger group stays in one room instead of splitting across two cabins.
What about food and facilities?
Every meal on the trip is cooked on board by the chef. There are daily snacks, coffee, tea and mineral water you can help yourself to. The dining table is long and sits in an open area facing the sea, which is why dinner usually turns into the longest and most relaxed part of the trip.
What you can use without paying extra: snorkelling gear, a paddle board, and the sundeck at the stern with its round mattress facing the water. Inside there is a lounge with a TV and karaoke, plus WiFi on board. A local guide is with you for the whole trip. Hotel or airport transfers within 3 kilometres of Labuan Bajo harbour are included.

Can I charter the whole boat?
Besides open trips, Gandiva can be taken as a private charter if you want the boat to yourselves. It works for company trips, large family holidays or birthdays. Charter is priced per boat per day and depends on the length of the trip and the number of people, so we send the exact figure on WhatsApp once your dates and group size are set. For a group of 8 to 10, chartering often makes far more sense than joining an open trip.

The Komodo National Park entrance ticket (around IDR 350,000 for Indonesian citizens or IDR 650,000 for foreign visitors) is not included in the price, and you can add it at checkout if you would rather pay for it together with your trip.

Upper deck · 2 paxArjuna Room
The priciest cabin on board, and the one the operator calls the master bedroom. Its double bed faces a row of big sea-facing windows, and the bathtub stands inside the room beside the bed rather than in the bathroom. A glass door opens to the private balcony, the only one on this boat. Full timber walls with a carved panel above the headboard.

Its double bed sits against three big windows facing the sea, so the water is in view while you are still lying down. The headboard is a green and gold geometric wood panel, the only one on this boat. Same price as Sadewa, and these two are the cabins the operator calls ocean view.

Nakula’s twin: same price, same double bed, and the same sea view through two large windows beside the bed. A carved timber panel sits above the headboard. Either one works; the difference is the number of windows and the wall panel.
Lower deck · 2 paxBima Room
IDR 1,250,000 cheaper than the ocean-view cabins, and the view is what you give up: no sea windows here, just one small round porthole in the wall. The rest is full timber, with a bedside table, sockets and a reading light. Its ensuite has a pillar shower and a basin.

The family cabin on the lower deck: one double bed in the middle plus bunks along the side, so four people fit without opening a second cabin. Full timber walls with a green panel above the headboard. The ensuite has a shower and a toilet. The only view is a small round porthole, same as Bima.

Day 1
Board the phinisi at Labuan Bajo Harbor 10:00-11:00. Sail to Kelor Island for a viewpoint hike. Snorkel at Manjarite. Flying-fox sunset at Kalong Island. Overnight on board.
Day 2
Sunrise hike on Padar Island (panorama of 3 bays). Pink Beach for swimming and snorkeling. Ranger-led Komodo dragon trek on Komodo Island. Snorkel the Taka Makassar sandbank. Snorkel at Manta Point. Overnight on board.
Day 3
A last snorkel at Kanawa or Siaba, where turtles pass regularly. Sail back to Labuan Bajo, arriving at the harbour 11:00-12:00.

Day 15 stops
- 10:00-11:00 - Board at KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo, meet the crew and settle into your cabin.
- Kelor Island - An easy trek up the ridge. Short but steep, and the cluster of islands opens up from the top.
- Manjarite - A relaxed snorkel in clear water over shallow reef and reef fish.
- Kalong Island - We anchor in the late afternoon and wait for thousands of flying foxes to leave the mangroves as the sun drops.
- Overnight on board.
Day 26 stops
- Padar Island - We leave in the dark to catch sunrise. The climb is real, and what waits at the top is the three-bay view Komodo is known for.
- Pink Beach - The sand is pink from broken coral. You can swim and snorkel straight off the beach.
- Komodo Island - A trek with a national park ranger to see the dragons in their own habitat. The ranger sets the route and the distance.
- Manta Point - A swim looking for manta rays. It depends on the current and the sea that day.
- Taka Makassar - A sandbar that surfaces at low tide, good for photos and a snorkel along its edge.
- Overnight on board.
Day 33 stops
- Kanawa or Siaba Island - A last snorkel in clear water. Turtles pass through Siaba often.
- Around 11:00 - Back alongside at KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo.
- That leaves room for an afternoon flight, but do not book one too tight.
