About this trip
Boarding a boat in Labuan Bajo is a great experience, but on a packed boat the fun turns into a scramble. Picture queueing for the bathroom, fighting over a seat, and struggling to find a corner just to sit quietly. That is why the boat you pick matters. Ayla is deliberately kept small. Ten guests maximum, four cabins. No pile-up of people the way it goes on boats carrying twenty-odd passengers. Roomy, open, and everyone gets their own space. There are a few cabin types. Two doubles and one twin, each for 2 people. The other is a bunk cabin with 4 single beds, the best fit if you are travelling solo or as a group of four. It runs as an open trip, so you pay per person per cabin and share the boat with other guests. Good for anyone who does not mind meeting new people and wants a more personal boat. The boat itself is built from teak and ironwood, 22.6 metres long, with 4 crew including a captain who knows the Komodo route by heart. Over 3 days and 2 nights you will trek Padar at dawn, stop at Pink Beach, meet komodo dragons on their island with a ranger, then look for mantas at Manta Point and drop by Taka Makassar. Bookings are only secure through the OpenTripKomodo website.
Cabins
Deluxe Cabin 1
The double cabin with the most windows: curtained on two sides of the bed, so morning light gets in before you switch anything on. The bed sits against the timber wall, with a shelf beside it for your things. Same price as Deluxe Cabin 2, and the only difference is which way the windows face.
Deluxe Cabin 2
The twin of Deluxe Cabin 1 at the same price. Windows on one side, and the air-con unit sits directly above the bed. A small shelf at the head of the bed takes your phone and water bottle; the rest is plain timber.
Deluxe Twin
Same price as the two double cabins, except here the beds are two separate singles. Take it if you are travelling with a friend and would rather not share a bed. Windows on both sides, air-con on the middle wall, and this is the one cabin decorated with a rattan mirror and dreamcatchers.
Deluxe Share
The cheapest bed on board, and it is sold per bed, not per room: you pay for one berth. Four single beds stacked in pairs in one air-conditioned room, with a guard rail and a wooden ladder on the upper berths. Right for solo travellers who do not mind sharing the room with other guests.

Itinerary
Day 1
Board at Labuan Bajo harbour between 10:00 and 11:00. Sail to Kelor Island for a short trek to the top. Snorkeling at Manjarite. Bat sunset at Kalong Island. Overnight on board.
Day 2
Sunrise trek on Padar Island with its three bays. Pink Beach for swimming and snorkeling. Komodo Island with a ranger. Manta Point and Taka Makassar. Overnight on board.
Day 3
A last snorkeling stop at Kanawa or Siaba Island. Back in Labuan Bajo around 11:00, in time for a midday flight.

Booking terms
A 30% deposit locks your seat. The balance can be settled up to the departure day. Booking less than 7 days out must be paid in full upfront.
If you bring a replacement guest for your seat, you get a full refund whenever you cancel.
