About this trip
Aimar is a 27 metre wooden phinisi in the luxury class, built in 2024. It sails from Labuan Bajo on a 3 day, 2 night trip around Komodo National Park, from IDR 5,200,000 per person.
Aimar sells the trip per person, and the cabin range is wide. From a single bed in a shared cabin for solo travellers to a master cabin with its own balcony, the same boat works for backpackers, couples and family groups on the same dates.
There are 7 cabins for up to 18 guests, all air-conditioned.
Which cabin should you pick?
Master Cabin Agung and Rinjani: a double bed, an ensuite bathroom and a private balcony with a deck chair facing the sea. IDR 9,200,000 per person. A third person can take an extra bed for IDR 4,800,000.
Deluxe Cabin Tambora and Semeru: a double bed and an ensuite bathroom, no balcony. IDR 8,200,000 per person, extra bed IDR 4,300,000.
Private Bunk Cabin: two single bunks, a cabin just for you and one friend, with the bathroom outside and shared. IDR 5,600,000 per person.
Share Cabin Bromo and Ijen: four single bunks per cabin, sold by the bed. The bathroom is outside and shared. IDR 5,200,000 per person, the lowest price on board, and you can book a single spot.
The IDR 1,000,000 gap between Master and Deluxe pays for the balcony. If you plan to spend your free time on the sundeck anyway, Deluxe is enough.
Where does the trip go?
Day one leaves KP3 harbour in Labuan Bajo, stops at Kelor Island for a short hike, snorkels at Manjarite, then waits at Kalong Island for thousands of flying foxes at sunset.
Day two starts before dawn on Padar Island for sunrise, then Pink Beach, the Komodo dragons with a ranger on Komodo Island, a swim at Manta Point and a stop at the Taka Makassar sandbar. Day three is slow, at Kanawa or Siaba, before the boat heads back to Labuan Bajo. The day-by-day plan is in the itinerary section.
What is the boat like?
A wooden phinisi hull with two decks and a long bowsprit. The engine is a Mitsubishi 8DC11, power comes from two 40 kVA generators, and the fresh water tank holds 12,000 litres. Navigation runs on GPS, AIS, radio and sonar. Cruising speed is 7 to 8 knots.
Who is it for?
Travelling alone on a budget, take a bed in a Share Cabin. Two of you who want your own room on a tighter budget, the Private Bunk Cabin. Couples after time together, a Master Cabin and its balcony. Family groups can spread over several cabins on the same boat, and Master or Deluxe cabins take an extra bed.
What about food and facilities?
Every meal on the trip is cooked on board, with snacks and free-flow coffee, tea and drinking water. The dining room is indoors, with a long table and windows onto the sea. Inside there is also a lounge with rattan chairs and floor cushions, plus a coffee bar with a TV.
Up top is a wide white sundeck with beanbags and low tables, the best spot to wait for sunset. Snorkelling gear and a local guide are included. Two transfers (airport, hotel or KP3 harbour) are included in the price too.

Can you charter the whole boat?

Day 1
Board the phinisi at Labuan Bajo Harbor 10:00-11:00. Sail to Kelor Island for a viewpoint hike. Snorkel at Manjarite. Flying-fox sunset at Kalong Island. Overnight on board.
Day 2
Sunrise hike on Padar Island (panorama of 3 bays). Pink Beach for swimming and snorkeling. Ranger-led Komodo dragon trek on Komodo Island. Snorkel the Taka Makassar sandbank. Snorkel at Manta Point. Overnight on board.
Day 3
A last snorkel at Kanawa or Siaba, where turtles pass regularly. Sail back to Labuan Bajo, arriving at the harbour 11:00-12:00.

Day 15 stops
- 10:00-11:00 - Board at KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo, meet the crew and settle into your cabin.
- Kelor Island - An easy trek up the ridge. Short but steep, and the cluster of islands opens up from the top.
- Manjarite - A relaxed snorkel in clear water over shallow reef and reef fish.
- Kalong Island - We anchor in the late afternoon and wait for thousands of flying foxes to leave the mangroves as the sun drops.
- Overnight on board.
Day 26 stops
- Padar Island - We leave in the dark to catch sunrise. The climb is real, and what waits at the top is the three-bay view Komodo is known for.
- Pink Beach - The sand is pink from broken coral. You can swim and snorkel straight off the beach.
- Komodo Island - A trek with a national park ranger to see the dragons in their own habitat. The ranger sets the route and the distance.
- Manta Point - A swim looking for manta rays. It depends on the current and the sea that day.
- Taka Makassar - A sandbar that surfaces at low tide, good for photos and a snorkel along its edge.
- Overnight on board.
Day 33 stops
- Kanawa or Siaba Island - A last snorkel in clear water. Turtles pass through Siaba often.
- Around 11:00 - Back alongside at KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo.
- That leaves room for an afternoon flight, but do not book one too tight.
