About this trip

Want the Komodo open trip without blowing the budget? Deden Putra sells per person from IDR 3,300,000 for 3 days and 2 nights out of Labuan Bajo, and you can book a single spot. 🦎

It is a 24 metre wooden boat built in 2024, so this is one of the newer hulls in the fleet. A maximum of 14 guests across 5 cabins, all air-conditioned.

Two kinds of cabin to choose from:

  • •Private Cabin 1, 2 and 3: double bed, 2 people, ensuite bathroom. IDR 4,650,000 per person. Number 1 sits on the upper deck, the other two on the main deck.
  • •Share Cabin: you buy a bed, which is the one to pick if you are travelling solo or as a pair. The main-deck cabin has double-width bunks at IDR 3,300,000 per person. The upper-deck cabin has single bunks so everyone gets their own bed, at IDR 3,450,000 per person. The bathroom is outside and shared.

What happens across the three days?

Day 1 the boat leaves Labuan Bajo at 11:00. We ease in at Kelor Island and Manjarite, then anchor at Kalong Island late afternoon and wait for thousands of flying foxes to lift off as the sun drops.

Day 2 starts in the dark for the climb up Padar Island at sunrise, then Pink Beach, then the Komodo dragons with a ranger, and the day closes swimming with manta rays at Manta Point plus a stop at the Taka Makassar sandbar.

Day 3 is easy. The boat heads back and ties up in Labuan Bajo around 11:00. If you fly out the same day, book anything after 13:00 to stay safe.

Meals are full board on the boat with a dedicated chef. Snorkelling gear, life jackets, tender boat, mineral water, coffee, tea and snacks are included. Not included: the Komodo National Park entrance fee (is arranged by the Open Trip Komodo team, no cash), flights, hotels and personal expenses.

The operator arranges your pickup over WhatsApp the day before departure, usually between 08:30 and 10:00 depending on your hotel. If you land on the day itself, make sure your flight arrives before 11:00.

Check which dates are still open, then book your cabin.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1

We cast off from KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo between 10:00 and 11:00. An easy warm-up trek for the view over Kelor Island, then a relaxed snorkel at Manjarite. The day closes with the magic of sunset at Kalong Island, thousands of flying foxes lifting off behind it.

  2. Day 2

Up early to chase the iconic sunrise over the three bays of Padar Island. Then the pink sand of Pink Beach, meeting the ancient dragons on Komodo Island with a ranger, a swim looking for manta rays at Manta Point, and a stop at Taka Makassar.

  3. Day 3

One last clear-water snorkel at Kanawa or Siaba. The boat docks back at KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo around 11:00, leaving you a safe margin for an afternoon flight.

  • Kalong Island - We anchor in the late afternoon and wait for thousands of flying foxes to leave the mangroves as the sun drops.
  • Overnight on board.

Day 26 stops

  • Padar Island - We leave in the dark to catch sunrise. The climb is real, and what waits at the top is the three-bay view Komodo is known for.
  • Pink Beach - The sand is pink from broken coral. You can swim and snorkel straight off the beach.
  • Komodo Island - A trek with a national park ranger to see the dragons in their own habitat. The ranger sets the route and the distance.
  • Manta Point - A swim looking for manta rays. It depends on the current and the sea that day.
  • Taka Makassar - A sandbar that surfaces at low tide, good for photos and a snorkel along its edge.
  • Overnight on board.
