About this trip
NK Jaya is a deluxe-class wooden phinisi out of Labuan Bajo, registered as NK Jaya Explorer 01. It runs 3 day 2 night trips around Komodo National Park, you sleep on board, and prices start at IDR 4,350,000 per person.
What sets NK Jaya apart in its class: all 7 cabins are private, each with a queen bed, air conditioning and its own bathroom. There are no four-person shared cabins and no shared bathrooms down the corridor. The boat is not large either, with a maximum of 14 guests, so the deck never feels crowded at sunset.
What is the boat like?
The hull is wooden, phinisi style, 22 metres long and 4.5 metres wide. The main engine is a Mitsubishi 6D16, power comes from 2 generators of 8 kVA each, and the cruising speed is 7 to 10 knots. The boat carries 6,000 litres of fresh water and 3,000 litres of fuel.
A 6 metre fiberglass speedboat with a Yamaha 15 HP engine takes you to the beaches. Safety gear includes a liferaft, life jackets, ring buoys, fire extinguishers and a first aid kit. For navigation there is AIS, radar, a compass and GPS, plus SSB and VHF radio.
Inside there is a dining room with a long table and windows all around. On the outer deck you get a shaded dining table, a sundeck and a jacuzzi tub at the bow.
Who is it right for?
If you are a couple who want your own room with your own bathroom, NK Jaya fits. Even the cheapest cabin comes with air conditioning and an ensuite.
If you are a group of 6 to 14, you can book several cabins at once, or ask about chartering the whole boat on WhatsApp.
If you are travelling solo, message us on WhatsApp before you pay. Every NK Jaya cabin is a double, with a minimum of 2 guests per cabin.
What are the cabins like?
There are 2 cabin types and 7 rooms in total. Each has a queen bed for 2, air conditioning and an ensuite bathroom with a shower, a basin and a western toilet.
Superior is on the lower deck at IDR 4,350,000 per person. There are 3 of them. The walls are wood panelled and light comes in through round portholes, so the room stays shaded and cool for an afternoon nap. If you get seasick easily, the lower deck usually moves the least.
Full Ocean is on the main deck at IDR 5,350,000 per person. There are 4 of them. Long, wide windows face the sea, so you wake up looking at the islands from your bed. The IDR 1,000,000 difference from Superior is what you pay for that view.
What about meals and facilities?
Meals during the trip are included and cooked in the boat's kitchen. Coffee, tea, mineral water and snacks are there whenever you want them. You eat at the long table indoors, or at the deck table when the weather is good.
Snorkelling gear and life jackets are provided for every guest. Hotel pickup to KP3 Harbour and the drop-off afterwards are arranged at checkout.
Not included: the Komodo National Park entry ticket, IDR 350,000 for Indonesian citizens and IDR 650,000 for foreign visitors per person, which you can pay at checkout. Also the operator's fuel supplement of IDR 150,000 per person, the ranger fee paid on site, flights, hotels and crew tips.
Where does the route go?
On day one you board at KP3 Harbour between 10.00 and 11.00, take a short hike up the ridge of Kelor Island, snorkel at Manjarite, then wait for thousands of bats to leave the mangroves of Kalong Island as the sun goes down.
Day two starts in the dark to catch sunrise on Padar Island. After that comes Pink Beach, a walk with a ranger on Komodo Island, a swim looking for manta rays at Manta Point, and photos on the Taka Makassar sandbar.
On day three there is a final snorkel at Kanawa or Siaba Island, and you are back in Labuan Bajo at around 11.00. That still leaves time for an afternoon flight.
The order of stops can change with the weather and currents. The captain makes that call, and it is a safety call.

Day 15 stops
- 10:00-11:00 - Board at KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo, meet the crew and settle into your cabin.
- Kelor Island - An easy trek up the ridge. Short but steep, and the cluster of islands opens up from the top.
- Manjarite - A relaxed snorkel in clear water over shallow reef and reef fish.
- Kalong Island - We anchor in the late afternoon and wait for thousands of flying foxes to leave the mangroves as the sun drops.
- Overnight on board.

Day 26 stops
- Padar Island - We leave in the dark to catch sunrise. The climb is real, and what waits at the top is the three-bay view Komodo is known for.
- Pink Beach - The sand is pink from broken coral. You can swim and snorkel straight off the beach.
- Komodo Island - A trek with a national park ranger to see the dragons in their own habitat. The ranger sets the route and the distance.
- Manta Point - A swim looking for manta rays. It depends on the current and the sea that day.
- Taka Makassar - A sandbar that surfaces at low tide, good for photos and a snorkel along its edge.
- Overnight on board.

Day 33 stops
- Kanawa or Siaba Island - A last snorkel in clear water. Turtles pass through Siaba often.
- Around 11:00 - Back alongside at KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo.
- That leaves room for an afternoon flight, but do not book one too tight.
