About this trip
Derya is a 22 metre wooden phinisi with just 4 cabins. It sails 3 day 2 night trips around Komodo National Park from Labuan Bajo, from IDR 5,750,000 per person.
With only four cabins, a trip carries at most 10 guests, not a crowd fighting for the same photo spot on deck. You pay per person, so two of you can join without chartering the whole boat. What changes is the cabin you choose; the route is the same for everyone on board.
What is the boat like?
Derya is a wooden phinisi with a dark hull and a white superstructure. It is 22 metres long and 4.5 metres wide. A Mitsubishi 6D16 engine gives a cruising speed of 6 to 7 knots, and the fresh water tank holds 8,000 litres. For beach landings and snorkel spots there is a 4 metre dinghy with a Yamaha 15 HP outboard. Navigation runs on a Garmin MAP 585 GPS and a compass, and the boat carries life jackets, life buoys and fire extinguishers.
The dining room is indoors, wrapped in glass windows on both sides. There is a long wooden table with white bench sofas along each wall, so lunch stays cool even when the sun is fierce outside. Up on the bow, white loungers sit under a canvas shade, the best place on board to wait for sunset with a snack.
Who is it right for?
Couples who want a good room without paying luxury-boat prices: the Master Cabin Padar has a private balcony with a bathtub facing the sea. It is the only cabin on Derya with a bathtub.
If you are travelling with a friend and the point is the full trip on the tightest budget, Rinca or Kanawa on the lower deck cost IDR 5,750,000 per person. That is IDR 2,750,000 per person less than Padar, on exactly the same route.
Small groups of 8 to 10 fit well too. Book every cabin and the whole boat is yours.
What are the cabins like?
Master Cabin Padar, IDR 8,500,000 per person. On the upper deck, a large double bed faces the sea windows, and sliding glass doors open onto a balcony with a white bathtub. The bathroom is inside the cabin, with a shower.
Private Cabin Komodo, IDR 7,500,000 per person. Also on the upper deck. A double bed with wide windows on two sides, so you can see the bay from the bed. Private bathroom inside the cabin.
Private Cabin Rinca, IDR 5,750,000 per person. On the lower deck, with a double bed, a small round porthole and its own air conditioner. More compact than the upper deck cabins, but comfortable enough for two nights.
Private Cabin Kanawa, IDR 5,750,000 per person. On the lower deck, with a wide bed, small wall shelves and a bathroom right inside the cabin.
Every cabin is air-conditioned.
What about food and facilities?
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are cooked by the onboard chef for the whole trip. Snacks, coffee, tea and drinking water are free to take. Snorkelling gear, life jackets, the speedboat and a guide are included, as are pick-up from your hotel or the airport in Labuan Bajo and the Kanawa Island entrance fee.
Not included: flights, alcoholic drinks, personal spending and tips for the crew. The Komodo National Park ticket is also extra, IDR 350,000 for Indonesian citizens and IDR 650,000 for foreign visitors per person, plus the ranger fee paid on site.
Where does the trip go?
On day one you board at 10 am at Labuan Bajo harbour, then stop at Kelor Island, snorkel at Manjarite and spend the evening at Kalong Island watching thousands of flying foxes leave the mangroves at sunset. Day two starts before dawn with sunrise on Padar Island, then Pink Beach, a ranger-led Komodo dragon trek on Komodo Island, Taka Makassar and Manta Point. On day three you sail back to Labuan Bajo and are off the boat by 2 pm at the latest.
The order of stops can change with the weather and currents. The captain makes that call, and it is a safety call.
How do I book?
Pick a date and a cabin on this page, then pay in full. Your cabin is locked as soon as the payment goes through. Derya open trips run Friday to Sunday, and a trip departs once at least 2 cabins are booked.

Day 15 stops
- 10:00-11:00 - Board at KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo, meet the crew and settle into your cabin.
- Kelor Island - An easy trek up the ridge. Short but steep, and the cluster of islands opens up from the top.
- Manjarite - A relaxed snorkel in clear water over shallow reef and reef fish.
- Kalong Island - We anchor in the late afternoon and wait for thousands of flying foxes to leave the mangroves as the sun drops.
- Overnight on board.

Day 26 stops
- Padar Island - We leave in the dark to catch sunrise. The climb is real, and what waits at the top is the three-bay view Komodo is known for.
- Pink Beach - The sand is pink from broken coral. You can swim and snorkel straight off the beach.
- Komodo Island - A trek with a national park ranger to see the dragons in their own habitat. The ranger sets the route and the distance.
- Manta Point - A swim looking for manta rays. It depends on the current and the sea that day.
- Taka Makassar - A sandbar that surfaces at low tide, good for photos and a snorkel along its edge.
- Overnight on board.

Day 33 stops
- Kanawa or Siaba Island - A last snorkel in clear water. Turtles pass through Siaba often.
- Around 11:00 - Back alongside at KP3 Harbour in Labuan Bajo.
- That leaves room for an afternoon flight, but do not book one too tight.
