About this trip

North Blue is a superior-class wooden boat, 20 metres long. It sails from Labuan Bajo on 3 day, 2 night trips through Komodo National Park. Prices start at IDR 2,900,000 per person.

North Blue sells by the person. Two of the cabins are even sold by the bed, so if you are travelling alone you can join without booking a whole room. Couples, groups of three, and families travelling together all fit here too.

There are 5 cabins for 18 guests, looked after by 6 crew. That is three guests per crew member. It is a two-level wooden boat with a single mast, not a two-masted phinisi, and we say so plainly so you know exactly what you are boarding.

The five cabins sit at three price points, from IDR 2,900,000 to IDR 4,100,000 per person. The gap is not about different beds. Only two things change: which deck the cabin is on, and whether the bathroom is inside the room or outside it.

Now, if an en-suite bathroom is non-negotiable for you, there is one cabin you should avoid.

The Master Cabin suits you if you want a room to yourselves. It sits on the upper deck, the double bed backs onto two large sea-facing windows, and white walls with dark ceiling beams make it feel more open. The bathroom is inside the room. IDR 4,100,000 per person, and there are two of these.

Share Cabin 4 is on the main deck, with two double bunks, so four people fit. Walls and ceiling are full timber and there is a small sea-facing window. The bathroom is inside the room as well. IDR 3,100,000 per person, and there are two of these.

Share Cabin 6 is also on the main deck and takes six people: two double bunks plus two singles. This is the only room whose bathroom is outside and shared, and that is the single reason it is the cheapest. IDR 2,900,000 per person, and there is only one.

Every cabin already has air conditioning and thick mattresses. So if you take Share Cabin 6, what you trade for the IDR 1,200,000 saving is the bathroom, not the quality of your sleep.

What is the boat like?

The hull is teak and ironwood, 20 metres long and 4.5 metres wide. The engine is a Mitsubishi 6D16 and power comes from a Mitsubishi PS100 generator. It carries 5,000 litres of fresh water. Navigation runs on compass, GPS, SSB radio and VHF radio. Cruising speed is 8 to 11 knots.

Who is it right for?

If you are travelling alone, take one bed in Share Cabin 4 or Share Cabin 6. You pay per person and share the room with other guests, and that is the cheapest way to join this trip.

If you want a room to yourselves, the Master is the answer. It is IDR 1,200,000 per person more than the cheapest cabin, and what you get is the en-suite bathroom and the upper deck.

A family of four fits one Share Cabin 4, so nobody has to split across two rooms. A group of six can take the whole Share Cabin 6, and since it is the lowest price on board, that is also the most economical way to sail together.

What about food and facilities?

Three meals a day are cooked on board, plus an afternoon snack. Mineral water, tea and coffee are there for you to help yourself. There is a fridge and a water dispenser on board.

There are two lounging areas, both outdoors. The upper deck has a large sun mattress ringed with blue bean bags under a fabric canopy, best in the afternoon while the boat is moving. A step down is a lounge with long sofas around a round wooden table, sheltered but still facing the sea, usually where everyone gathers after snorkelling. Inside there are speakers and a karaoke set.

What you can use without paying extra: snorkelling gear, a canoe, and a small speedboat for island landings. Life jackets and a life raft are on board. A local guide is with you for the whole trip, and hotel or airport transfers in Labuan Bajo are included in the price.

The full list of what is and is not included sits in the Included and Not Included section on this page. There are no hidden costs.

Can I charter the whole boat?

Besides open trips, North Blue can be taken as a private charter if you want the boat for your own group. It works for company trips, family gatherings or birthdays. Charter is priced per boat per day and depends on the length of the trip and the number of people, so we send the exact figure on WhatsApp once your dates and group size are set. For a group of 12 or more, chartering often makes more sense than buying places one by one.

How do I book?

You can book North Blue on this page. For dates, we suggest talking to our team first so you get the best one. If North Blue is not free on the date you want, our team will offer you other boats of the same standard. Tell us which cabin you are after as well, because there is only one Share Cabin 6 and it is the first to go.

To avoid fraud, always transact through this website or through the official OpenTripKomodo contact number, +62 813 5347 7978.

The Komodo National Park entrance ticket (around IDR 350,000 for Indonesian citizens or IDR 650,000 for foreign visitors) is not included in the price, and you can add it at checkout if you would rather pay for it together with your trip.

These two sit on the upper deck, and that is what sets them apart: white walls with dark ceiling beams rather than the full timber of the lower deck. The double bed backs onto two large sea-facing windows, so the view is there while you are still lying down. A long wooden shelf runs beside the bed for your things, plus air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom.
