About this trip
Nemmo is a 20 metre wooden phinisi running 2 day 1 night Komodo open trips from Labuan Bajo. Four cabins, ten guests at most, and a crew of 5. Prices start at IDR 3,000,000 per person.
What sets Nemmo apart from boats its size: all four cabins have air conditioning and their own bathroom, including the sharing cabin that is sold by the bed. So if you travel solo you still get air conditioning and an en-suite, without paying for a whole room.
What is the boat like?
It is 20 metres long and 4.24 metres wide, with a Mitsubishi 6D15 engine. The hull is white-painted timber with two masts and a long bowsprit. There is a life jacket for every guest and a life raft on board.
The main deck has a long wooden dining table with eight rattan chairs, covered overhead and open to the sea on both sides. The upper deck is the lounge: blue beanbags, a low table and a shade net, where you hang out while the boat moves between islands. The bow is open timber deck facing straight out to sea.
With ten guests on a 20 metre boat, you are not fighting for a seat on the upper deck or queuing long for the dinghy to the beach.
Who is it right for?
Travelling solo on a budget, take one bed in the Sharing Room at IDR 3,000,000. You share the cabin with other guests from the same trip.
As a pair, Private Room I or II is enough at IDR 3,750,000 per person. That is only IDR 750,000 per person more than a shared bed, and the room is yours.
Couples who want the quietest cabin should take the Master Room on the upper deck, IDR 250,000 per person more than a Private Room.
Groups of 8 to 10 are better off chartering the whole boat. The operator does not recommend this trip for pregnant women or babies under 2, or if you get seasick easily.
What are the cabins like?
The Master Room is on the upper deck, the only cabin on that level. Double bed, timber walls, curtained windows on two sides, air conditioning, towels, charging points and an en-suite bathroom. IDR 4,000,000 per person, booked for two at minimum.
Private Room I is on the main deck. Double bed, timber walls and floor, two curtained windows, air conditioning, towels, charging points and an en-suite. IDR 3,750,000 per person, two at minimum.
Private Room II is also on the main deck, at the same price as Private Room I. Double bed, a wall-mounted air conditioner, a small louvred window and a white floor. Same amenities: towels, charging points and an en-suite.
The Sharing Room on the main deck has a double bunk, two stacked double mattresses for 4 people. Air conditioning, towels, charging points and an en-suite. IDR 3,000,000 per person, bookable from one guest.
Every cabin bathroom has white walls, a sit-down toilet and a hand shower.
What about meals and facilities?
All meals while sailing are included, plus snacks, coffee, tea and drinking water. Snorkelling gear is provided, a trip leader and local guide come along, and the trip is documented for you. Airport or hotel pick-up and drop-off in Labuan Bajo is included too.
Not included: flights, hotel nights on land before or after the trip, the Komodo National Park entrance ticket, the ranger fee, personal spending and tips for the crew if you want to give them. You can add the national park ticket at checkout to pay it together with the trip.
Where does the route go?
Day one leaves Labuan Bajo for Kelor Island, a short hike and snorkelling. Then Rinca Island to see Komodo dragons with a ranger. In the late afternoon you reach Kalong Island and wait for thousands of fruit bats to leave the mangroves at sunset. You sleep on board.
Day two starts at dawn on Padar Island, climbing to the viewpoint over three bays. Then Pink Beach for a swim, the Taka Makassar sandbar, and Manta Point to snorkel with manta rays. You are back in Labuan Bajo in the afternoon.
Two days is short. The upside is Padar, dragons, Pink Beach and mantas without taking a third day off. The downside is there is no spare day, so if the weather turns, the crew reorders the stops.
When does it depart?
Nemmo's regular open trip leaves every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Dates with seats left show in the calendar on this page.
Can I charter the whole boat?
Yes. Nemmo also runs private charters from 2 days 1 night up to 4 days 3 nights, for up to 10 people. Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp and our team will send the price.
