About this trip

Gajah Putih is a regular-class wooden phinisi sailing out of Labuan Bajo. The trip runs 3 days 2 nights around Komodo National Park, and you sleep on board. Prices start at IDR 3,250,000 per person.

What sets Gajah Putih apart in its price range: all six cabins are private. There are no four-bed shared cabins and no outside bathrooms you queue for. Every cabin has air conditioning and its own bathroom, including the cheapest one. The boat is small too, with a maximum of 13 guests and 5 crew, so you will not be fighting for deck space to take photos.

What is the boat like?

The hull is wooden, built in the phinisi style. It is 24 metres long and 4 metres wide. The main engine is a Mitsubishi 6D22, backed up by a 4-cylinder Mitsubishi. Power comes from an ADK 40 kVA generator, with a Motoyama MPG 12000 generator as backup. There are 30 life jackets on board, more than twice the maximum number of guests.

On board there are 6 guest cabins, a kitchen, a bar, a captain and crew room, and a separate crew toilet. So the bathroom in your cabin is used only by you and your cabin mate.

Who is it right for?

If you are travelling as a couple and want a cabin of your own without paying luxury boat prices, Gajah Putih fits well. Even the Superior cabins on the lower deck have a private bathroom and air conditioning, just like the cabins above.

If there are three of you and you do not want to split up, take the Master Suite. It is the only cabin that can take a third guest.

If your group is 8 to 13 people, look at the charter section below. The whole boat is then yours.

If you are travelling alone, ask us on WhatsApp before you pay, because every cabin here is a double cabin.

What are the cabins like?

There are 4 cabin types, and the price rises with the deck and the view. Every cabin has a double bed for 2 people.

Superior Cabin on the lower deck, IDR 3,250,000 per person. There are 2 of them. The window is a small porthole, so this is the shadiest room. It is the best value, and the essentials are the same: air conditioning and a private bathroom.

Deluxe Cabin on the main deck, IDR 3,750,000 per person. Only 1 cabin, with a wide window onto the sea. The IDR 500,000 over Superior buys you waking up to the sea from your bed.

Master Cabin on the upper deck, IDR 4,250,000 per person. There are 2 of them, sitting highest on the boat with wide sea windows.

Master Suite Cabin on the main deck, IDR 4,750,000 per person. Only 1 cabin, and it is the roomiest on board. A third guest can be added for IDR 3,000,000.

If you get seasick easily, pick a cabin on the lower or main deck. The lower the cabin, the less it usually rocks.

What about meals and facilities?

Meals during the trip are included and cooked in the boat kitchen. Coffee, tea and mineral water are free flowing. You eat in the open-air dining area on deck, together with the other guests.

Free to use on board: snorkelling gear, a paddle board, the sundeck, Wi-Fi, a speaker and karaoke. A guide comes with you for the whole trip, and there are life jackets for every guest.

Not included: flights, hotels in Labuan Bajo, travel insurance, personal spending, crew tips and the Komodo National Park entrance ticket.

Where does the route go?

The 3 day 2 night route covers the main sights of Komodo National Park: the climb to the top of Padar, the pink sand of Pink Beach, the dragons on Komodo Island, snorkelling at Manta Point and the sandbar at Taka Makassar. The day by day order is in the itinerary block on this page, and it can shift a little with the weather and currents.

When does it depart?

The Gajah Putih open trip runs twice a week: Monday to Wednesday, and Friday to Sunday. You can check the cabins left on each date right on this page.

Can I charter the whole boat?

Yes. Gajah Putih also runs private charters, from IDR 32,500,000 per trip. The exact price depends on the length of the trip and the number of people, so our team sends it on WhatsApp once your dates and group size are set. For a group of 8 to 13, a charter often makes more sense than joining an open trip.

How do I book?

You can book Gajah Putih on this page: pick a date, pick a cabin, pay. Your cabin is locked once the payment goes through. If your date is already full, our team will help you find another boat of the same standard.

To avoid fraud, always transact through this website or through the official opentripkomodo.net number, +62 813 5347 7978.

The Komodo National Park entrance ticket (IDR 350,000 for Indonesian citizens or IDR 650,000 for foreign visitors) is not included in the price, and you can add it at checkout if you would rather pay for it together with your trip.
