About this trip

Ayayay is a wooden boat for one-day open trips from Labuan Bajo into Komodo National Park. In a single day you stop at Padar Island, Pink Beach, Komodo or Rinca, and finish with sunset at Kalong Island. The one-day open trip costs IDR 2,250,000 per person, a soft-opening price down from the normal IDR 2,500,000.

The boat takes at most 20 guests, so it never feels crowded. It is run by Andalucia Charter, the same operator as the Andalucia 2 and Andalucia 3 phinisi.

What is the boat like?

Ayayay has an air-conditioned lounge with long wooden tables and wide windows onto the sea, where you eat and rest between islands. Outside there is an open deck with sun loungers at the bow and a rooftop above. There are two bathrooms on board, speakers, and Starlink satellite internet, so you can still send photos from the middle of the sea.

Why Ayayay?

The operator keeps the boat small on purpose: 20 guests only, with every stop chosen for the best experience rather than the most stops. Every trip is documented with a professional mirrorless camera and a drone, so you come home with good photos without having to shoot them yourself. The boat suits you if you only have a short time in Labuan Bajo, or if you are not ready to sleep on a boat but still want to see the main sights of Komodo National Park in one day.

How do the seats work?

Ayayay is sold per seat. One guest is one seat, so you can join alone, as a couple or as a group of up to 20. The seats left on each date show in the calendar on this page.

Where does it go?

You are picked up from your hotel around Labuan Bajo town, then the boat heads to Padar Island. There you hike to the ridge to see its three bays from above.

From Padar the boat continues to Pink Beach. According to the operator it is one of seven pink-sand beaches on earth. Below the water there are coral gardens that are good for snorkelling, and it feels calm because the boat arrives with a small group.

Next is Komodo Island or Rinca Island, where you walk with a ranger to see the dragons in their habitat. The ranger explains how these prehistoric lizards live while keeping a safe distance along the trail.

In the late afternoon the boat stops at Kalong Island. As the sun goes down, thousands of bats fly out of the mangroves. After that the boat returns to Labuan Bajo and you are dropped back at your hotel.

The operator promises at least 4 stops, more when conditions allow. The order can change with the weather and currents.

Is there a sunset trip?

Yes. The Ayayay sunset trip visits Kelor Island, Taka Papagarang and Kalong Island for IDR 1,200,000 per person (soft-opening price, normally IDR 1,500,000). The sunset trip is booked on WhatsApp.

What is included?

Transfers around Labuan Bajo town, meals and drinks on board, coffee, tea and mineral water, snorkelling gear, mirrorless camera and drone photos, Starlink internet, the air-conditioned lounge, deck, rooftop and two bathrooms.

Fuel is included too. The operator only adds a fuel charge if diesel rises above IDR 30,000 per litre.

Not included: the Komodo National Park entrance fee and crew tips. You can add the national park ticket at checkout.

Can I charter the whole boat?

Yes. A day-trip charter is IDR 25,000,000 for 10 people, plus IDR 1,750,000 for each extra person. A sunset-trip charter is IDR 18,000,000 for 10 people, plus IDR 750,000 per person. You can set your own route.

What should I bring?

Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a change of clothes and comfortable shoes for the hikes on Padar and Komodo. Towels and snorkelling gear are on board.
