How Far is it from Bali to Komodo Island?

The distance between Bali and Komodo National Park is 484 KM. It takes approximately an hour and half flight from Bali to Komodo Park. And the closest town to the Komodo National Park is Labuan Bajo so you need to go to Labuan Bajo first.


Flying from Bali to Komodo

The simplest and fastest option but will be quite expensive is flying from Bali to Komodo. It usually costs IDR 700.000 to 1.800.000 for a one-way ticket. You can purchase the ticket departing from Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, and arrive at Labuan Bajo Airport and it takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to Labuan Bajo Airport. Then you will continue with a short overland route by taxi.

Sailing from Bali to Komodo

This option might be more expensive and take more time than flying. Sailing from Bali to Komodo will take exactly two days and two nights to reach Labuan Bajo. Although this trip would be more expensive but quite the adventure and still worth to choose.

Took a Bus to Labuan Bajo

Going with this option is the cheapest way of all but consumes much more time. You will have three ferry crossings, Bali to Lombok, Lombok to Sumbawa, and Sumbawa to Labuan Bajo harbour.

All overland buses ticket you purchased from Bali has included all three ferry crossings and those multiple buses. So before you hand over your money, ask them to write it down on your ticket so they are not going to deceive you in the middle of the trip any extras.

How to Get from Labuan Bajo to Komodo

You’re going to need a boat to get to Komodo Island and you can only visit the Komodo National park with an official guide and a park ranger. So you need to book a tour operator that will organize the boat trip between the islands, the guide, and also to handle the park fees. You can pick one day trip or if you want to spend more time exploring the island, you can pick live-aboard boats and 1-2 night tours.

Beside Komodo Island, you can explore Padar Island, Pink Beach, or Kalong Island. While you were in Labuan Bajo, you can also explore Wae Rebo Village. This small and isolated village was recognized for its rebuilding of the traditional Mbaru Niang.

Wae Rebo is completely surrounded by panoramic mountains and the dense Todo forest. The traditional village of Wae Rebo in the district of Manggarai on the island of Flores also has received the Top Award of excellence from UNESCO in 2012.
